Homelifts help home carers too

Things to consider when having assisted care in your own home, for both carers and users.

At some point in our lives, many of us will take on caring responsibilities. In fact, there are an estimated 6.5 million paid and unpaid carers in the UK who look after family members with disability or illness; senior relatives who are frailer in later life, as well as friends or paid professional carers who visit regularly.

At Bespoke Homelifts we believe that home adaptations, such as the installation of domestic lifts, can significantly ease daily living pressures for those of us with caring responsibilities as well as for people with restricted mobility.

A Trio domestic lift , for example, can also help those we care for remain independent and continue living in the home they love with safe access to enable them to complete daily tasks. Making these daily tasks a pleasure not a chore... like going upstairs or downstairs for items, drinks or to use the bathroom. It can also help when cleaning the home, moving vacuum between floors, laundry baskets and in some cases our home lift owners' pets!  If carer assistance is required, a Trio Home Lift can carry up to three people or provide ample room for a wheelchair or walker.

Things to consider for a homelift:

  • What are the objectives of a home lift, to get to certain rooms etc?
  • Is seating required in the lift?
  • How many people will be using the lift at the same time?
  • Do you want to move house or happy where you are?
  • Consider equipment used... i.e. walking frames, and wheelchairs

Many older people currently reside alone in homes that do not support safe, independent living. If they struggle to use the stairs, they may need to be carried to an upstairs bedroom or bathroom – which can be an undignified and physically draining experience for everyone involved. According to Carers UK, the significant demands of caring mean that 600 people give up work every day to care for a disabled or older relative. Specialist home adaptations can provide safe, affordable access and positive living which reduce or even remove the burden of care.

Our home lift surveyors can help answer all your questions about the position of the home lift, access and any structural information required. If you would like to know more please complete our questionnaire here.
